Cyclomethicones are cyclic (circular) silicones of low molecular weight that evaporate quickly. Their volatility, excellent spreading and lubrication make them ideal carriers for other ingredients and excellent light conditioners for hair and skin. Non-greasy, cyclomethicone leaves no oily residue or build-up and imparts a soft silky feel to skin.

Due to their molecular size, silicones in personal care, cannot penetrate the cell membranes.  

Format: Clear liquid, non-staining and odourless. Consistency of water.

Common Uses: Cyclomethicone is used as a carrier to the skin and hair as it evaporates quickly, allowing penetration of the product being carried. Cyclomethicone is often used in detanglers due to it's spreadability   It is also used to keep the tackiness at bay in stickier products such as honeyquat or glycerin.

Solubility: Oil Soluble, not soluble in water.

Usage Rate: 3%-95%

Flashpoint: 171 Degrees Fahrenheit, this product cannot be shipped via Express or Priority mail.

INCI: Cyclopentasiloxane or Cyclomethicone

Safety according to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel:

• "Safe as used up to 93% in formulas"... this was an amended finding as of December 2009.

• This cyclomethicone is considered Cyclopentasiloxane, decamethyl-
