Cocoa Butter, Black (African Natural)

Cocoa Butter, African Natural™ is generally used for healing purposes and exotic formulation. African Natural™ is the rawest and most natural form of cocoa butter available. It is wholesome and retains its natural colour of dark brown and the raw texture of a lighter butter. It contains cocoa liquor which is normally removed in the further processing of typical cocoa butter. This is the natural state before it is physically fractionated into regular cocoa butter and cocoa liquor. Cocoa butter, as in dark chocolate, contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), a substance that inhibits the production of the immuno globulin IgE. This IgE is known to aggravate symptoms of both dermatitis and asthma. Since Cocoa butter African Natural™ is a dark raw butter, it can be assumed that it contains more immuno globulin content as compared to the natural and deodorized/refined versions. African Natural™ is excellent as a natural coloring for body butters, lip balms, lotions, and creams as the dark brown colour disappears once absorbed into the skin. In soap, it achieves the same dark chocolate colour that cocoa powder provides, without the colour running or staining the wash cloth. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Usage: Up to 100%, however it's firmness makes it difficult to use at that concentration.
Shelf Life: 4 to 5 years when stored in a cool, dry, dark location.
Randi's Comments:
The scent is more bitter than natural cocoa butter, although it is still pleasant. For a more rounded chocolate scent, consider using both the natural and black versions in your formulas. When formulating with this product, note that it is softer and creamier than both other cocoa butters we carry and your formula may need slight adjustments to achieve the same consistency if substituting gram for gram.
